Q

Why were the Christian persecuted?

A
  1. Religious Differences:
Christians were persecuted because their beliefs were different from those of the ruling powers. Roman authorities saw Christianity as a threat to traditional Roman religion and political stability. Romans worshiped many gods, while Christians believed in one God. This difference in belief led to fear among Roman leaders, leading to persecution to maintain control.
  2. Refusal to Worship Roman Gods:
Christians were persecuted because they refused to worship Roman gods. Roman law required citizens to participate in state religious ceremonies, which Christians refused to do. Christians believed in the commandment to worship only one God, so they couldn’t participate in rituals honoring other gods. This defiance of Roman religious practices angered authorities and led to persecution.
  3. Social and Cultural Conflict:
Christians were persecuted due to social and cultural conflicts with the wider society. Christians were often viewed as outsiders and were accused of immorality and undermining traditional family values. Christianity challenged social norms by promoting values such as equality and compassion. This clashed with the hierarchical structure of Roman society, leading to suspicion and persecution from those who felt threatened by these new ideas.

Q

Why was St Paul so important to the Church?

A

St. Paul is really important for the Church because of a few big reasons. First, he taught us a lot about what Christians believe. In letters he wrote that are in the Bible, like to the Romans and Ephesians, he explained important things like how we’re saved by faith and why Jesus’s resurrection matters so much. His writing helps Christians understand these ideas clearly.

Another big reason Paul is important is because he traveled all over, spreading Christianity to many places. You can read about his travels in the Bible’s book of Acts. He went to lots of different cities and helped start new Christian groups there. This made Christianity grow and become more common.

Lastly, Paul’s own story is really amazing. He used to be against Christians, but then he met Jesus and changed completely. This shows how powerful faith can be. Because of his writing, his travels, and his own story, St. Paul is super important to the Church.
