What are the 3 refuges?

A
  1. Dhamma = The buddha’s teachings. If you need refuge you look to the buddha’s teachings for help
  2. Sangha = people that have become enlightened. The community that follow the teachings of the buddha.
  3. Buddha = Siddharta Gautama/ The buddha. He can provide refuge as a role model.

  2. He understood the
    wheel of samsara.
  3. He understood suffering and how to overcome it.

  1. He sent his daughters to seduce siddharta gautama.
  2. Sent armies to attack him.
  3. He offered siddharta control of his kingdom.
  4. Tried to attack gautama himself.

(None of these tactics worked and siddharta Gautama/ the Buddha reached enlightenment.)

What do anicca, anatta and dukkha mean?

A
  1. Anicca: Imprmanence; Everything changes and nothing stays the same forever.
  2. Dukkha: Suffering; Bad things will always happen.
  3. Anatta: Not-self; We need to change/adapt to our enviroments.
