Re-entrant Rhythms Flashcards
What does a re-entrant rhythm cause
Causes atria/ventricular tachycardia and can degenerate to cause fibrillation
Name the types of Re-entrant rhythms
- Sinus node re-entrant tachycardia (SNRT)
- AV nodal re-entrant tachycardia (AVNRT)
- Atrial re-entrant tachycardia
- Atrioventricular re-entrant tachycardia (AVRT)
- Atrial flutter
- AF
What is SNRT
where the re-entrant circuit involves sinus node
What is AVNRT
re-entrant circuit involves AV node
What is atrial re-entrant tachycardia
where the re-entrant circuit is contained within the atria
What is atrioventricular re-entrant tachycardia
where the re-entrant circuit contains an electrical connection between the atria and ventricles
- there are several varieties of bypass tract (electrical connection) re-entrant tachycardia
- most well known is Wolff Parkinson syndrome
What is atrial flutter
special type of atrial re-entrant tachycardia in which the re-entrant circuit is especially large
What is AF in regards to re-entrant rhythms
generally regarded as a special type of re-entrant atrial tachycardia in which multiple re-entrant circuits can develop within the atria
Is a re-entrant rhythm continuous
For many, the re-entrant rhythm starts and stops instantaneously
