RDGI Flashcards
Type of Gyro
H Gyro
Process
flux > detector error > amplifer > annunciator > torque(DC) > heading
Flux valve
is positioned in a part of the aircraft least affected by on-board electrical fields wing where any aircraft generated magnetic disturbances are
at a minimum) Its function is to sense the direction of the earth’s magnetic field. It contains a pendulous magnetic detecting element mounted on a Hooke’s Joint to swing within limits of 25° about the pitch and roll axes, but allows no rotationin azimuth.
The primary component is the flux valve, composed about 3 coils that alimentated from AC can percieve the Earth magnetic field.
Error detector
it is a null sooking motor, that check if the sensor is perpendicular to the magnetic field, if it is not, it move and send a signal to the amplificator
The amplificator function
Amplification the un-amplified error signal is not
powerful enough to drive the precession motor.
Phase detector precession motor ‘knows which way to turn’
Rectification The mechanism of the precession motor is an electromagnetic solenoid acting on a permanent magnet and work in DC, this permit ot move the torque motor
how can work
Free the magnetic signal from the flux valve is disconnected, so acts as a free gyro (DGI)
Slave compass operates with the flux valve
Annunciator
During normal flight in SLAVE mode there is usually
continuous slight motion due to oscillations of heading and to vibration which means that rotor/stator comparison of the magnetic flux valve signal against the gyro shaft position continuously generates very small error signals. This is normal, and is how the system is designed
to work
