Rates of Reactions Flashcards
1
Q
Collision Theory
A
- Particles must collide
- Must collide with proper orientation
- Must collide with enough energy to form an activated complex.
2
Q
Activated complex
A
Transition state
3
Q
High Ea equals
A
Few collisions, low reaction rate
4
Q
Low Ea equals
A
More collisions, high reaction rate
5
Q
How does Concentration affect reaction rate?
A
Increasing the concentration of one of the REACTANTS will increase the # of collisions
6
Q
How does surface are affect Reaction Rate?
A
The greater the surface area the more often particles are able to collide.
7
Q
Temperature
A
Increasing temperature increases kinetic energy of the particles. It increases collision frequency AND collision energy
8
Q
What is a catalyst
A
- Speed up chemical reaction without being consumed.
- Not involved in the reaction
- Describes Ea, less energy required for collisions to occur. (It helps it lol).
