Rates Of Reaction Flashcards
Slow and fast reactions, what will the rate of reaction be ?
The faster the reaction the higher the rate of reaction
What are the two ways you can measure the rate of reaction?
Measure the rate the reactant is used up or measure the rate in which product is being made.
How is the mass of substance measured?
With a balance
How is the volume of gas produced measured?
With a gas syringe or a upside down measuring cylinder.
What is the equation for rate of reaction?
Rate of reaction = amount of gas produced or substance used \ time taken
How does concentration effect the rate of reaction?
The larger the concentration the more particles there are so more chance of successful collisions.
How does surface area increase the rate of reaction?
An increase in surface area means more particles are exposed to reaction so more successful collisions are available a powder has a larger surface area that a big block.
How does catalyst increase the rate of reaction?
Increases the rate of reaction without being used up it lowers the activation energy needed so there is more chance of successful collisions.
How does temperature increase the rate of reaction?
More energy so they move quicker so there is more chance of successful collisions.
What is the collision theory?
Collide with sufficient energy at the correct orientation in order to react.
What is the rate reaction?
It is the rate in which a reactant is used up in a reaction.
