Rates Of Photosynthesis Flashcards
What is photosynthesis
Photosynthesis is an endothermic reaction as it requires light energy to react carbon dioxide and water to produce glucose and oxygen. The light energy required is absorbed by a green pigment called chlorophyll.
How to change the rate of photosynthesis
Change light intensity
Step 1
Put some sodium hydrogen carbonate solution in a boiling tube to help the plant photosynthesise, and add a piece of your plant in
Step 2
Make sure the plant is fully under
Step 3
Cut the stem off the plant
Step 4
Count the amount of air bubbles you see coming out of the stem in a 1 minute period, this is the photosynthesis rate
Independent variables
Type of plant, light power, light distance, light intensity
Do you let the plant adjust to the light first
Yes, for 2/3 minutes
