Rate Of Reaction Flashcards
What is the rate?
The rate is a measure of how fast the products are made or reactants are used up
Explain the effect of temperature on rate
The higher the temperature, the quicker the reaction
What is activation energy?
The minimum amount of energy needed for a reaction
What reacts more quickly, large particles or small particles?
Small particles as they have a larger surface area therefore more collisions per second with the surface and more of those collisions result in a reaction
What is a catalyst?
A catalyst increases the rate at which a reaction happens
Describe a directly proportional curve
As volume increase, the time increases at the same rate - constant rate
Describe an increasing rate curve
Slow to start (shallow gradient) then speeds up (higher gradient)
Describe a decreasing rate curve
Starts fast (higher gradient) then gets slower (shallow gradient)
Describe a lower resultant volume curve
1/2 the volume of gas as the decreasing rate curve
How is rate calculated?
Rate = product formed/time
