Rate Of Reaction Flashcards
What is a catalyst?
A catalyst increases the rate of chemical reaction without chemically changed at the end of the reaction.
Provides alternate pathway of lower activation energy for reaction to occur, increases rate of reaction.
More reactant particles will have energy more than or equal to activation energy
Increases frequency of effective collisions, rate of reaction increases
How does concentration affect rate of reaction?
Higher concentration will increase rate of reaction as
-More particles per unit volume
-frequency of effective collisions increases
How does temperature affect rate of reaction?
Higher temperature, rate of reaction increases
- Particles gain more energy and move faster
- more particles have energy more than or equal to activation energy
- frequency of effective collisions increase
How does pressure affect rate of reaction?
Increase in pressure, rate of reaction increases
- particles are forced closer together in a smaller volume
- more particles per unit volume
- frequency of effective collisions increase
How does particle size affect rate of reaction?
Decrease in particle size, increase in rate of reaction
- larger exposed surface area for particles to collide
- frequency of effective collisions increase
