Rate Of Reaction Flashcards
What are the main factors that affect reaction rate?
Consentration, Pressure, Temperature and Surface area.
What is concentration?
Is a measure of the amount or number of particles in a given volume.
What are the two ways in which consentration can be increased?
Consentration can either be increased by increasing the number of particles whilst keeping the volume the same or by keeping the number of particles the same whilst decreasing the volume.
What one thing does presure only affect the reaction rate of?
It only effects reactions involving gasses
What is the name of the certain amount of energy needed for a reaction to be fruitful?
Activation energy
What does increasing the temp. do to the particals?
It increases the average kenetic energy of the particals.
What does increasing the surface area do?
It increases the rate of reaction.
What is needed for a reaction to take place.
For a reaction to take place the two reacting particals need to have a fruitful collision.
What is ‘a’,’b’ and ‘c’ in terms of chemistry?
‘a’ - is the activation energy
‘b’ - is the energy given out in a reaction
‘c’ - energy given out when the new reactants bonds make to form the products
What does breaking bonds do to energy?
It takes in energy.
What does making bonds do?
It gives out energy.
What is an endothermic reaction?
If more energy is taken in to break bonds that is given out when new bonds are make this is called an endothermic reaction.
What is an exothermic reaction?
If less energy is taken out to break bonds than is given out when new bonds are made, this is an exothermic reaction.
