Rate of Reaction Flashcards
Reaction Rate?
The change in concentration per unit time of either a reactant or a product.
Temperature?
Is proportional to the average Kinetic Energy of the molecules in a substance.
Rate of Reaction?
Rate at which product forms or reactant is used up.
Collision Theory?
For any two molecules to react, they must first collide, then have a combined Kinetic Energy greater than or equal to the activation energy of the reaction and lastly be correctly oriented.
How does a reverse reaction occur?
When the activation energy is lowered by the same amount as in the forward reaction.
Maxwell Boltzman Energy Distribution Curve?
A curve that shows the distribution of the kinetic energy of particles in a particular mixture.
The area under the graph represents the total number of particles in the sample, which always remains the same. The graph can be drawn for any gas, mixture of gasses, and liquids.
