Rate of photosynthesis and limiting factors Flashcards
What 3 limiting factors of photosynthesis?
Light intensity, CO2 concentration and temperature.
How does light intensity affect the rate of photosynthesis?
Increasing the light intensity will increase the speed of photosynthesis.
How does carbon dioxide concentration affect the rate of photosynthesis?
Photosynthesis can be limited by the concentration of CO2 in the air, even with enough light a plant cannot photosynthesis if there is insufficient CO2.
How does temperature affect the rate of photosynthesis?
If too cold or too hot, rate of photosynthesis decreases
How can you enhance the conditions in greenhouses to gain the maximise rate of photosynthesis?
Use artificial lights so photosynthesis can continue beyond daylight hours, or a higher than normal light intensity.
Use of paraffin lamps (when burning) produces heat and CO2, so increases photosynthesis.
