Aerobic and Anaerobic Respiration Flashcards

1
Q

What is cellular respiration?

A

An exothermic reaction which is continuously occurring in living cells. The energy transferred supplies all the energy for living processes.

Q

Compare the processes of aerobic and anaerobic respiration.

A

Aerobic needs oxygen to work.
Aerobic produces CO2 + water, anaerobic produces lactic acid.
Aerobic respiration produces much more energy per glucose molecule than anaerobic respiration.
Both need glucose.

Q

How is anaerobic respiration used in yeast cells?

A

Happens in microorganisms as they need to release energy too. This type of respiration is called fermentation and produces ethanol + CO2, ethanol is useful for brewers and winemakers and CO2 helps make bread rise.
