Rapids Flashcards
What processes cause rapids
Erosion- hydraulic action, the water breaks up and erodes away the less resistant rock.
Transportation- saltation/suspension of the eroded materials
What forms rapids
The river runs over alternating layers of resistant and non resistant rock. The material of the eroded less resistant rock is in the load and disturbs the flow of the river but not enough to cause a waterfall.
