Q
  • strengths and weaknesses
A

Strengths:
“One of my strengths is that I work well under pressure. During my internship, I often had to manage multiple tasks with tight deadlines, and I found that staying calm and focused helped me deliver results efficiently. I’m also a quick learner. When faced with new challenges or unfamiliar systems, I’m able to grasp concepts and adapt quickly, which has allowed me to contribute effectively even in new environments.”
“One of my strengths is that I perform well under pressure. For example, during my final year at university, I had to juggle multiple projects and exams all at once, especially during finals week. Despite the tight deadlines and workload, I was able to stay organized and focused, which helped me manage everything efficiently. Another strength is that I’m a quick learner. In my coursework, whenever we were introduced to new concepts or complex engineering problems, I was able to pick them up quickly and apply them effectively, even in challenging situations.”
Weakness:
“A weakness I’ve noticed is that I’m not great at memorizing things like formulas or definitions. I’ve always been more focused on understanding the bigger picture and how things work. While that approach helps me grasp concepts deeply, there are times when I need to memorize specific details, and I find that challenging. To improve, I’ve been working on creating better study habits and using techniques like repetition and visualization to help with memorization when it’s necessary.”

Q

tell me about yourself

A

Hi, I’m [Your Name], and I recently graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering from [University Name]. During my studies, I developed a strong foundation in problem-solving, process optimization, and working hands-on in the lab, which really sparked my interest in the oil and gas industry. (During my studies, I developed a strong interest in solving complex problems and understanding how different systems work together. This really motivated me to pursue a career where I could apply these skills in real-world situations.)
I was lucky enough to intern at one of OQ’s refineries for 8 months, where I got to dive deep into the refining processes, work on equipment maintenance, and really see how crucial safety is in day-to-day operations. That experience gave me a solid understanding of how large-scale operations run and how important it is to keep things both efficient and safe.
Since I’ve already had the chance to work with OQ, I’m really excited about the possibility of continuing with the company as a full-time engineer. I’ve always been impressed by OQ’s focus on innovation and sustainability, and I believe that my familiarity with the refinery and its processes would allow me to contribute quickly and effectively.
On top of my technical skills, I enjoy problem-solving and working with teams to come up with practical solutions—something I know would be really valuable in this role.

24
4 types of crude
1- heavy (extremely dark will produce more asphalt) 2- medium (moderate brown produces more gasoline) 3- light (fluid light yellow, more condensate and gasoline) has more hydrocarbon products 4- condensate (very light and colourless)
25
The difference between sweet and sour crude oil
Sour (more expensive (corrosive) --> so much H2S >0.5% sweet (less sulfur <0.5%
26
API
Universal system for classifying crude oil based on density lower API --> more aromatic crude ( lower yield of gasoline) higher API --> more paraffinic crude ( higher yield and of gasoline) more API crude is lighter
27
The oil quantity is measured in the tanks with reference of what?
Level of oil and free water Temperature BS&W Density (API)
28
key product of the refinery MAF
C1-C3. fuel gas (used in the refinery -boilers- C4 LPG cooking gas C5-C6 light naphtha (gasoline) C7-C12 heavy naphtha (gasoline) jet fuel (kerosene) diesel fuel (gas oil) LR (very heavy has a very long carbon chain --> cracking units
29
cracking units
hydrocracking thermal cracking (DCU) catalytic cracking
30
why will we choose you
You should choose me because I already have experience working with OQ, having completed an 8-month internship at one of your refineries. This has given me hands-on knowledge of your operations and the challenges involved in refinery processes. I’ve learned how important efficiency and safety are in this environment, and I’m ready to contribute from day one. In addition to my experience, I thrive under pressure and enjoy solving complex technical problems. During my thesis project, for example, I designed a distillation column to recover methanol with a high level of precision, which reinforced my ability to think critically and apply engineering principles effectively. Lastly, I’m a quick learner. I’ve shown that I can quickly adapt to new processes and systems, and I’m confident I can do the same in this role to help OQ meet its goals.
31
the value you'll add to the company
The value I bring to OQ is my ability to quickly adapt and learn new systems and processes. Throughout my studies in chemical engineering, I’ve consistently tackled complex subjects by focusing on understanding the underlying concepts rather than just memorizing facts. This approach allowed me to excel in areas like thermodynamics and process design, which are crucial in refining and oil and gas operations. Additionally, I have a passion for problem-solving. During my final year project, I was tasked with designing a plant to produce biodiesel, which required extensive research and creative solutions to overcome challenges, such as obtaining accurate data for waste cooking oil properties. My proactive approach in reaching out to industry professionals and adjusting designs shows my initiative and ability to find practical solutions—qualities that I’m confident will add value to OQ. In the long run, I see myself contributing to OQ’s goals by optimizing processes, increasing efficiency, and ensuring safety, while bringing a fresh perspective on innovation and sustainability.
32
Where do you see yourself in 5 years
Although I’m not entirely sure specifically where I’ll be in 5 years, I know I’m deeply passionate about the oil and gas industry! And I love the idea of continuing to learn and grow on a company like OQ. Also one of my main goals is to take my masters degree!
