Random3 Flashcards
What is a rate 1 turn?
A standard rate of turn used in instrument approaches and holding patterns so that the pilot actions can be predictable by controllers and other traffic.
A holding pattern where all turns are made to the left or inbound timing is other than standard value is referred to as…
A non standard holding pattern.
What is OIS?
Obstruction identified surfaces determine objects that are vertical instructions.
When is an object considered a vertical obstruction?
When an object penetrates the OIS surface.
What is the climb gradient of the OIS?
2.5% extending outwards from the runway.
Or a ratio of 40:1
What are the types of Standard instrument departures? (SIDs)
1) Straight departure: a departure track is within 15° of the alignment of the runway centre line
2) Turning departure: when a departure route requires a turn of more than 15°
Where does the Instrument Departure Procedure end?
It end at the point where the route connects to the next segment and the PDG reaches the minimum altitude/height authorized for the next phase of flight (eg. En-route, holding or approach)
What document gives guidelines for aircraft operations?
Doc 8168 volume 1 and 11
What is the difference between Minimum Sector Altitude (MSA) and Terminal Arrival Altitude (TAA)?
The lowest altitude used to provide a minimum clearance of 1000ft above all objects located in a 25NM radius centred
MSA: on a significant point (VOR,NDB)
TAA: on the initial approach fix (IAF)
What is the purpose of TAA?
The purpose of a Terminal Arrival Altitude is to provide a transition from the en-route structure to a Area Navigation System (RNAV) approach procedure.
What are the terminal area fixes?
1) Initial approach fix
2) Intermediate approach fix
3) The holding fix
4) Missed approach point
5) Turning point
