Random Shit Flashcards
red nucleus
Found in the midbrain - controls limb movements
substantia nigra
Found in the midbrain - important in initiating movements, produces dopamine
periacqueductal gray matter
Found in the midbrain - made up of cell bodies that surround the aqueduct joining the third and fourth ventricles, contains circuits controlling species-typical behaviors.
Layers of cortex (functions)
1-3: Integrative functions - same thickness in motor & sensory cortex
4: Sensory input (afferent) - thicker in sensory cortex than motor cortex.
5-6: Output to other parts of brain (efferent) - thicker in motor cortex than sensory cortex
How many layers are in the neocortex? How about the limbic (cingulate) cortex?
Neocortex - 6
Limbic Cortex - Three or four layers of gray matter atop a layer of white matter
What three factors influence the movement of anions and cations into and out of the cell?
diffusion, concentration gradient, and charge.
How long does an action potential last
1 millisecond
