Adrenaline and epinephrine

patients taking beta blockers (may not respond to adrenaline)

An antihistamine by slow IV injection e.g. chlorphenamine
On discharge from anaphylaxis, what treatment should be considered for patients?
Oral antihistamine and oral corticosteroid for up to 3 days
What route is the first choice for administration of adrenaline/epinephrine for anaphylaxis?
Intramuscular
When would IV be an option for adrenaline/epinephrine in anaphylaxis?
- If the pt is severely ill
- If there is doubt about the circulation and absorption after IM injecting
What are the main clinical signs of cystic fibrosis?
- pulmonary disease
- recurrent infections
- production of viscous sputum
- malabsorption
Which mucolytic should be offered to patients producing viscous sputum in cystic fibrosis?
- first line - dornase alfa
- second line - add hypertonic sodium chloride
What can be used to control a distressing cough in terminal lung cancer?
- diamorphine
- methadone - tend to avoid as it accumulates
