RANDOM Flashcards
Bile
~Aids digestion
Bile, or gall, is a dark-green-to-yellowish-brown fluid produced by the liver of most vertebrates that aids the digestion of lipids in the small intestine. In humans, bile is produced continuously by the liver (liver bile) and stored and concentrated in the gallbladder.
Tubercles
A tubercle is a small rounded point of a bone.
It also refers to a nodule attached to bone, mucous membrane (moist layer lining parts of the body), or skin.
The term tubercle is less commonly used to refer to skin irritation resulting from a tuberculosis (TB) infection.
Insertion
The point or mode of attachment of a skeletal muscle to the bone or other body part that it moves.
Flexors
A flexor is a muscle that flexes a joint. In anatomy, flexion is a joint movement that decreases the angle between the bones that converge at the joint.
Transverse
The transverse plane or axial plane is an imaginary plane that divides the body into superior and inferior parts. It is perpendicular to the coronal plane and sagittal plane.
Occipital
The occipital bone is a cranial dermal bone and the main bone of the occiput (back and lower part of the skull).
JugulAR
THESE ARE THE VEINS THAT STAND OUT ON EITHER SIDE OF YOUR NECK.
The word “jugular” refers to the throat or neck.
The jugular veins are in the neck and drain blood from the head, brain, face and neck and convey it toward the heart.
ligamentum nuchae
The ligamentum nuchae is a large median ligament composed of tendons and fascia located between the posterior muscles of the neck. It covers the spines of C1 to C6 vertebrae. It is a superior and posterior extension of the supraspinous ligament.
Protracts
to extend or protrude forward and outward.
Spinous process
Spinous process is a bony projection off the posterior (back) of each vertebra
vertebral arch join and provides the point of attachment for muscles and ligaments of the spine.
Supraspinous ligaments
is a strong fibrous cord, which connects together the apices of the spinous processes from the seventh cervical vertebra to the sacrum
at the points of attachment to the tips of the spinous processes fibrocartilage is developed in the ligament.
Mastoid Process
The mastoid process is the portion of the temporal bone of the skull that is behind the ear.
Superior nuchal lines of occipital bone
The nuchal lines are four curved lines on the external surface of the occipital bone
Dorsal Rami
is the dorsal branch of a spinal nerve that forms from the dorsal root of the nerve after it emerges from the spinal cord. The spinal nerve is formed from the dorsal and ventral rami.
