When designated within a CTA, control zones (CTRs) shall form part of that CTA. True or False?
True.
What is the difference between controlled areas and controlled zones?
Controlled areas: a controlled airspace extending upwards from a specified limit above the earth.
Controlled zones: a controlled airspace extending upwards from the surface of the earth to a specified upper limit.
Which centres are the central point for collecting all info and forwarding such to the rescue coordination centre?
Flight information centre or Area control centre.
When does the uncertainty phase begin?
1) No communication has been received within a period of 30 minutes
• After the time one should have been received or
• From the time an unsuccessful attempt to establish communication was made.
Whichever is earlier.
2) An aircraft fails to arrive within 30 minutes
• of the ETA last notified
• the ETA last estimated by ATS unit,
Whichever is later.
When does the Alert phase begin?
1) Following uncertainty phase, subsequent attempts to establish communication with aircraft or inquiries to other relevant sources have failed to reveal any news of the aircraft, or when,
2) An aircraft has been cleared to land and fails to land within 5 minutes of the estimated time of landing and No communication with aircraft.
3) information has been received indicating that the operating efficiency of the aircraft has been impaired but not to the extent of a force landing
4) an aircraft is known or believed to be the subject of unlawful interference.
What should be included in the notification to Rescue Coordination Centre? (RCC)
a) Shall contain info in the following order INCERFA, ALERFA, or DETRESFA, as appropriate to the phase of the emergency.
b) agency and person calling
c) nature of emergency
d) significant information from the flight plan.
e) unit which made last contact, time and means used
f) last position report and how determined;
g) colour and distinctive marks of aircraft;
h) dangerous goods carried as cargo;
j) any action taken by reporting office;
k) other pertinent remarks
When does the distress phase commence?
Distress Phase
- following the alert phase, further unsuccessful attempts to establish communication with aircraft and more widespread unsuccessful inquiries point to the probability that the aircraft is in distress, or when
- the fuel on board is considered to be exhausted, or to be insufficient to enable the aircraft to reach safety
- information is received which indicates that the operating efficiency of the aircraft has been impaired to the extent that a forced landing is likely,
- information is received or it is reasonably certain that the aircraft is about to make or has made a forced landing.
When is an upper limit of a control area shall be established?
a) Air traffic control service will not be provided above such upper limit; or
b) The control area is situated below an upper control area, in which case the upper limit shall coincide with the lower limit of the upper control area.
Lateral limits shall encompass the flight paths of IFR flights to which Air Traffic Control Service will be provided.
Taking into account capabilities of navigational aids in area. True or False?
True.
How is ATIS transmitted?
2) Transmitted on discrete VHF frequency.
3) Voice channel of terminal navigation aid, however NOT THE ILS.
