RAM Calculation Flashcards
What is an isotope ?
An element with the same number of electrons but a different number of neutrons.
Are the reactivity of isotopes of the same element the same?
Yes because they have the same electronarrangement.
What does the different masses of atoms mean?
Physical properties of isotopes are slightly different
What is the definition of a relative atomic mass of an element?
The relative atomic mass of an element is the average mass of its atom compared to 1/2 of the mass of carbon- 12 atom.
Do isotopes have a decimal for relative atomic mass?
No!
What is the RAM formula?
RAM = average mass of an atom x12/mass of one atom of c-12
Why are the atoms positive ions?
So we can see the mass.
