Rainforests Flashcards
Eco-System: A community of plants and animals which interact with each other and with their non-living environment.
Living creatures and plants in an ecosystem depend on non living features such as climate, soils, geology and relief.
Micro: A small scale ecosystem
Messo: A medium scale ecosystem
Biome: A large scale ecosystem
The rainforest is north and south of the equator inbetween the tropics.
Adaptation: the process of change by which an organism or species becomes better suited to its environment.
Biodiversity: the number of species of plants and animals
Resource: a material that can be used by humans
Photosynthesis: the removal of nutrients from soil by rain
Evapotranspiration: the movement of water from plants back into the atmosphere
Goods: things taken from the rainforest used either for individual survival or commercial profit.
Services: the way that the rainforest serves/helps the planet
Deforestation: clearing the earths forests on a massive scale
Logging: cutting, skidding, onsite processing and loading of trees or logs onto trucks. Cut into logs > sold
Exported: send (goods or services) to another country for sale
Plantations: farming that produces just one crop over a very large area
