What does a rain gauge Do?
It collects and measures rainfall and other types of precipitation.
What does the narrow base ( thats often pointed) allow for?
For measurementts to be made.
What is the unit of measurement?
Millimeters. mm
Where should it be sited?
In an area away from trees and buildings and should be placed on short grass - 50cm to 1m above the ground to avoid splashes entering the gauge.
What should be avoided with the rain gauge?
Concrete and bricks as it results in evaporation.
What should be done when taking the measurements?
Readings should be taken at the same time every day. Eye level readings should be taken and it should then be recorded.
Where is the collection cylinder placed?
Inside another container.
What does the dark and coolness of the ground endure?
That evaporation won’t occur.
