Radiology of Malignant Dz of Jaws Flashcards
Malignant Signs and Symptoms
Displaced/loose teeth in short time
Foul smell, ulceration, indurated
Exposure of bone
Lymphadenopathy
“Numb Chin syndrome”
Malignant Radio Features
Poorly defined Non-corticated irregular margin Non-space occupying Irregular widening of PDL Teeth floating in space, doesnt displace
Leukemia
Only malignant follicle lesion that displaces
Periosteal Reaction
Usually malignancy doesn’t cause
However, if parallel = slow lesion = infection
If right angle periosteal reaction = malignancy
Soft tissue
Any lesion that has soft tissue extension/mass
Osteosarcoma
Malignant tumor of bone, most common
20-40
Widening of PDL space
Periosteal bone formation!!
Multiple Myeloma
Multiple punched-out round radiolucencies in skulls and jaws
Plastacytomas = very large lesion
Lymphoma
Generalized osteopenia w/ loss of lamina dura
Ill-defined bone destruction
Root resorption
Leukemia
Bilaterally ill-defined, patch radiolucent areas
Osteopenia
Can displace tooth follicle occlusally
Langerhan Cell Histiocytosis
Punched out lesions, larger
Teeth floating in space
Breast cancer
Known to have mets to jaws even after dz free for many years
