12
Q

What are some clues that IV contrast has been given?

A

Vessels are more dense than muscle or brain

Kidneys are more dense than muscle OR the urinary system will be dense

Q

If you can a few minutes after IV contrast injection, which areas a re whiter? What’s this called?

A

Extravascular spaces and renal medulla

“Late phase”

17
Q

What does CT-IVU stand for?

A

CT-intravenous urogram

18
Q

What does an acute subdural haematoma look like and why?

A

White (dense)

The clot has a high concentration of RBCs and therefore more iron.

19
Q

What does a chronic subdural haemotoma look like and why?

A

Relatively hypodense (dark)

Over time the RBCs breakdown and the Hb/iron is resorbed, and the haemotoma density becomes closer to water.

It’s still slightly more dense than CSF which is essentially water.
