What is the apophyses of a joint?
Normal bony outgrowth that are fused with bone and the site of tendon or ligament attachment
What is a complete fx?
Cortex is broken all the way through
What is an incomplete fx?
Only part of cortex is broken through
What are some radiologic features of a fx?
Abrupt disruption of cortex Acute changes in smooth contour Fx lines are black and linear Fx lines can be white if there is overlapping Jagged
How do you describe a fracture?
Extent- complete/incomplete Site- RT/LT, Prox/Dist etc Number and Type- Simple/complex/wedge Direction-Transverse/Oblique Special features- +/- articular involvement/depression/impaction Closed or Open Impaction
What are some indirect signs of trauma with fractures?
ST swelling
Fat stripe obliteration
Joint effusion
What are some key points with elbow and knee joint effusions?
Elbow: Fat pad always irregular sign/ seen only on lat view
Knee: Widens supralateral strip/ seen only laterally
What are common sites for fatigue fractures?
Lower limbs (proximal femur, medial tibia, calcaneus and 2/3 metatarsals)
