RADIOLOGY Flashcards
HOW WOULD BONE, SOFT TISSUE AND AIR APPEAR ON THE XRAY AND WHY?
radiopaque vs radiolucent
who should not be subject to certain imaging ?
different imaging modalities pros and cons
what color is soft tissue on xray?
ideal view for lungs ?
what view is good for hand and feet?
AP view-may be the only view you get for patient unconscious or confined to bed
* PA view-ideal chest x-ray view
* Lateral view-should try to always get a
lateral view
* Oblique view-good for hand and feet
what view on xray should be done to access correct heart size?
Posterior-Anterior (PA):
X-ray beam passing through the patient from Posterior to Anterior (PA).
The chest X-ray image produced is viewed as if looking at the patient from the front, face-to-face. Patient is usually standing, when obtaining a chest x-ray
PA views are of higher quality and more accurately assess heart size than AP images
Anterior-Posterior (AP):
AP:
X-rays beam passes from the anterior to the posterior of the patient - hence Anterior-Posterior (AP) projection. The image is still viewed as if looking at the patient face-to-face.
lateral view
right lateral vs left lateral
Lateral: Patient stands sideways to the x-ray. Can be done on either left or right side next to the film. If patient’s left side is placed next to the film, it is called “left lateral.” If patient’s right side is placed next to the film, it is called “right lateral.”
Oblique:
Halfway between AP (or PA) and lateral radiographs. Patient will be rotated 45 degrees from lateral.
