RADIOGRAPHY/ULTRASOUND/MRI Flashcards
What is an x-ray?
Electromagnetic radiation. Similar to light rays except they have higher energy which the body & tissues can’t absorb, the bones absorb some, white is absorbed, dark is not
What is an ultrasound?
Uses sound waves to penetrate the animals body, depending on the density they reflect back producing an image of the body. They reflect back 30 times per second so the image is constantly moving.
What is x-ray used for?
Bones eg fractures & breaks
Foreign bodies
Bladder stones
Tumours and more
What is ultrasound used for?
Bladder & kidney stones
Cancers
Pockets of fluid
Pregnancy
What is an MRI?
MRI stands for Magnetic Resonance Imaging. It is similar to an x-ray and ultrasound but gives much more detail. It is basically a giant magnet which sends out radio waves into the body then when the machine is turned off the body releases the waves.
What is an MRI used for?
Brain and spinal problems
