Q

what are the main reseasons we use imaging?

A
  1. visualise tissue and pathlolgies which are hidden
  2. aid in amking diagnosis
  3. treatment planning
  4. guide treament
  5. monitor outcomes

Q

on the EM spectrum what happens when wavelenght increase ?

A

frequencey decreases and so the waves become less ionising

5
Q

describe the significance of wavelenght and frequency for UV-rays/X-ray/Gamma- rays

A

shorter wavelenght and high frequence. therefore they are more ionising

6
Q

describe how X-rays are produced using the follwoing:

cathode/anode/ tungsten/ vacuum.

A

hot cathode fires electrons at high speed towards the anode when the electrons hit tungsten X-rays are produced. This is done in a vacuum.

7
Q

what is the significance of x-rays having short wavlenght and longer wavelenght.

A

short wavelenght allows for higher energy and greater penetration- Highly Ionising

longer wavelenght (soft wavelenght) allows for lower enegry an less penetration.

Q

x-ray film speed plays a role in the imagie quality mention three aspects of it.

A
  1. allows for high sensitivity
  2. lower does required
    1. poorer quality image

Q

what are the 4 things that happen when x-rays interact with matter

A
  1. Scattering- change in the photon direction
  2. absorption- removal of energy from the beam
  3. Attenuation- reduction of intensity due to scattering and absorption
  4. Transmitted unchanged

Q

what does the colour : black, grey and white tell us about the x-ray.

A

Black all photons hit the film- Air

Grey some photons hit the film- Bone

White no photons hit the film- Metal
