Radiograph Case Studies Flashcards
What age do growth plates cloe in dogs?
6-8months
Which normal findings may cause confusion on rads?
> Tibial tuberosity grwoth plate (dorsal aspect of knee)
- very wide
- appears as an avulsion of the tibial tuberosity
Medial fabellae more distal - not symetrical
Lucency of lateral femoral condyle
What is GFR proprtional to?
renal volume
Where are renal stones found?
Renal pelvis
Radiographic signs of disc prolapse?
- narrowed intervertebral space
- calcified material superimposed on vertebral canal
- small and/or opaque intervertebral foramen
- vacuum phenomenon (gas in intervertberal space)
What soft tissue trauma would you suspect with pelvic/abdo blunt trauma?
- ruptured bladder
- ruptred diaphragm
- pneumothorax
What does an irregularity and thicking of the bone at the physis of long bones indicate commonly in a young animal?
- haematogenous osteomyelitis
> esp. calves and foals
What is the only thing hat can displace bladder cranially?
- prostate
Do dogs get impactions?
Rarely
- more likely gravel sign d/t partial obstruction . tumour
What potential errors can occour because of inadequate radiography? How can these potentially be overcome?
> poor quality - poor positioning - incorrect exposure - faults > insufficient radiographs - min 2 projections orthogonal (more in equine limb) - contralateral limb - repeat rads after period of time (changes in pathophysiology)
