Radiocarpal Joint Flashcards
1
Q
Type of Joint
A
Synovial ellipsoid capable of 2 degrees of freedom-
Flex/ext - 85deg
Add/abd - 45/15deg
2
Q
Articular Surfaces and Capsule
A
Concave distal surface of radius and intra-articular disc and convex surface of prox row of carpal bones linked by interosseous ligts
Capsule attaches prox to distal margins of radius and ulna ant/post, med/lat to radial and ulnar styloid processes, distally to ant/post margins of prox carpal row
3
Q
Supporting Ligaments
A
CLs reinforce and support lat and med aspect of capsule:
Radial- from radius to scaphoid and trapezium
Ulnar- ulna to triquetrum and pisiform
Dorsal/Palmar radiocarpals:
-from radius to scaphoid, lunate and triquetral
4
Q
What makes it stable?
A
Many tendons crossing joints Ant/post/med/lat ligts Tendons bound by retinaculums Radio/intercarpal ligts Ext with rad dev when in closed-packed Flexor retinaculum -considered accessory ligt -attaches to pisiform, hamate, scaphoid, trapezium -forms root of carpal tunnel (which medial nerve runs through)
