Q

RUE

A

DM/PAR intercept. Canopy performance and light intercepted. The amount of DM accumulated is proportional to the amount of radiation intercepted.

Q

What causes the differences seen in RUE

A

The type of product the crop is producing because lipids and proteins have a higher energy cost than carbs.

Q

Describe the logestic curve

A

DM accumulation over time, slow DM increase, exponential phase LAI (crop working at full capacity), DM rate declines = little change in DM produced

Respiration

A

Drives plant growth. Used to convert stored energy to usable energy for cells. Is constant. Driven by temp ie. low in winter

Q

What does N do?

A

Drives cell division, growing leaf and number of grains per head. N helps longevity of individual leaves by preventing yellowing and loss of chlorophyll required in photosynthesis.

Q

Explain Rubisco

A

Crop takes up nitrate which is converted to ammonia to build N compounds. Rubiso is composed of N and is a protein storage and photosynthetic enzyme used to remoblise N to grain later.

17
Q

N remobilisation

A

As N is remobilised for grain filling Rubisco concentration decreases in the leaf. Rubisco is the connection of N to RUE.
