Radiation Flashcards
What material does alpha radiation get stopped by?
Paper.
What is ionisation?
Is the addition or removal of an electron to create an ion.
What material does beta radiation get stopped by?
Few mm of aluminium .
What material does gamma radiation get stopped by?
Led.
State what is meant by the activity of a radioactive source ?
The number of nuclei that decay in a second.
What is half life ?
Is the time taken for the source to reduce down to half it’s original value?
Formula for Dosimetry ?
Activity = number of radiation /time.
Formula for absorbed does ?
D=E/M. Gy
Formula for does equivalent ?
H=dwr. Sv
Formula for activity?
A=N/t Bq
Equivalent does rate?
H=h/t
What is fission ?
A heavy nuclei spits into two logger nuclei with the release of two or three neutrons.
What is fusion?
Two light nuclei joining together to form a heavier nucleus .
Explain what happen in a chain reaction ( fission)
Neutrons in uranium have fission fragment which give off heat. More neutrons are formed repeating the same process .
