Radial nerve lesions Flashcards
Saturday Night Palsy
at spiral groove of humerus from direct pressure against a firm pressure
like when you pass out on arm
Crutch Palsy
at axilla
Posterior Interosseous Syndrome
- comes off in front of the lateral epicondyle of the humerus
- SUPINATOR mm, btw heads
- compression in canal of FROSHE
- motor nerve
- “WRIST DROP”
Cheiralgia Paresthetica
- compression of superficial branch of radial nerve- passes under tendon of BRACHIORADIALIS
- sensory
- pain at dorsum of wrist, thumb and web space
- ## trauma, tight cast, swelling
Pathway of Radial Nerve
under clavicle - arm pit - post. arm - lateral arm: branch before SUPINATOR.
Post motor branch- Posterior interosseous nerve; enters Supinator - down lateral radius
Superficial Branch- down posterior forearm to hand
Causes or Radial Nerve Lesion
Fracture - spiral/radial groove
Dislocation- head of radius, humeroradial or radioulnar jts.
Post surgery complications
compression
Symptoms or Radial Nerve Lesions
altered sensation at posterior arm and hand ( digits 1,2,3and lateral 1/2 of 4)
Wrist drop
proximal elbow injury- both sensory and motor affected
distal elbow injury- only sensory OR motor affected
