Radar Flashcards
What are the 4 principles of radar
Frequency
Pulse width (PW)
Pulse repetition frequency (PRF)
Arial rotation period (ARP)
What are the frequency bands for radar?
3-30Ghz
What is the wave length at 3GHz?
10cm
What is the wavelength at 10GHz
3cm
What does the waveguide do?
Waveguides guide the signal to the reflector and minimize loss of signal, they must be matched to radar in use.
How does the Wave guide size relate to wavelength?
2/3
If waveguide is 2, then wavelength is 3
4=6
What is the relationship between Arial size and frequency?
Higher frequency, smaller the Arial
What is the direct correlation between frequency and target discrimination?
Increase frequency = increased Target discrimination
How is range effected by frequency?
Increased frequency, lower range
How do you measure relative velocity?
Doppler effect
Manual plotting
Automatic plotting
What is the main disadvantage with continues range radars?
You need 2 Ariels, one to receive and one to transmit
How do you focus a radar beam?
Change the shape of the reflector
How is ARP relates to PRF?
Increased PRF decreases duration of the ARP
How does pulse width alter power and discrimination?
Increased pulse width increases power and decreases discrimination (hits and halves)
What is the function of the master timing generator?
Produces timing pulses
Controls the Pulse repetition frequency
Controls the modulator (on/off)
Synchronizes…..
