Rad Anat Upper Extremity Quiz Flashcards
What is the minimal diagnostic series for the shoulder?
AP with Internal Rotation, AP with External Rotation
Humeral Axial Angle
View: AP External Rotation
How: line thru and parallel to the midshaft of humerus. line thru humeral head from the apex of greater trochanter to medial margin. measure the inferior angle
Normal: male 60 degrees, female 62 degrees
Glenohumeral Joint Space
View: AP external rotation
How: measure and average joint space at superior, middle, and inferior aspects
Normal: 4-5mm
Acromiohumeral Space
View: AP external rotation
How: distance from inferior surface of acromion process to superior articular surface of humeral head
Normal: 7-11mm
Acromioclavicular Joint Space
View: AC
How: distance between clavicle and acromion
Normal: 3mm; should be <2-3mm difference R to L
Coracoclavicular Distance
View: AP shoulder
How: measure distance from coracoid process to the inferior surface of clavicle
Normal: 11-13mm; or no more than 5mm difference from R to L
What is the minimal diagnostic series for the elbow?
AP Elbow, Lateral Elbow
Carrying Angle
View: AP Elbow
How: line thru midshaft humerus and line thru midshaft ulna. measure angle.
Normal: 154-178 degrees; average 169 degrees
Anterior Humeral Line
View: Lateral Elbow
How: line tangential to anterior humerus
Normal: intersect anterior 1/3 capitellum
What is the minimal diagnostic series for the wrist?
PA Wrist, Medial Palmar Oblique Wrist, Lateral Wrist
Three Carpal Arcs
View: PA Wrist
Proximal Carpal Line: line drawn along proximal surface of scaphoid, lunate, triquetrum
Mid-Carpal Line: line drawn along distal surface of scaphoid, lunate, triquetrum
Distal Carpal Line: line drawn along proximal surface of capitate and hamate
Normal: smooth arcs
Ulnar Variance
View: PA Wrist
How: distal radius projects 0-3mm beyond the ulna
Normal: >3mm = negative ulnar variance
PA Radiounlar Angle
View: PA Wrist
How: line tangential to tip of radial styloid and base of ulnar styloid. second line thru axis of radius. measure proximal, ulnar side angle
Normal: 72-95 degrees
Lateral Radius Angle
View: Lateral Wrist
How: line thru and parallel to shaft of radius; second line tangential to distal articular surface of radius. measure proximal palm side angle
Normal: 79-94 degrees
Lateral Wrist Line
View: Lateral Wrist
How: Draw a line thru the long axis of the radius, lunate, capitate, and 3rd metacarpal.
