Racemic Epinephrine Mechanism of action
Marked stimulation of alpha, beta-1 and beta-2 receptors leading to bronchodilation and decongestion

Racemic Epinephrine Indications
- Acute Bronchial Asthma
- Bronchospasms due to emphysema, chronic bronchitis or other COPD
- Croup
Racemic Epinephrine Contraindications
- Epiglottitis
- Narrow angle glaucoma
- Use caution with patients who are hypertensive or tachycardic
Racemic Epinephrine side effects
CNS: restlessness, tremors, anxiety, dizziness, headache
Cardio: tachycardia, hypertension, palpitations, angina, dysthymias
Respiratory: bronchial edema/inflammation, paradoxical bronchospasms
Racemic epinephrine routes/dosages
Route: HHN; can be prescribed as a metered dose inhailer
Adult and pediatric dose: 0.25-0.75ml of 2.25% Racemic epinephrine solution diluted in 3 ml NS every 1-4 hours
