Goals 2013

Now that I’ve established a somewhat regular schedule, I would like to make it a priority this year to excel in my commitment to my priorities. Those would include fitness and scripture study. If I can do that, then everything else will fall into place.

Personal

  • FINANCIAL - Save ~10% of income ($11k for total investment of $72k+ (assuming $41k as of Jan 2013 + $20k from CS + $11k new); Find market mimicking portfolio and do! TD Ameritrade options account; WEEKLY review of budget and spending charts; Start a Non-profit (Galen & Quenalee Nelson foundation ?);
  • DEVELOPMENT – Finish Wharton, emphasize Real Estate, PE, VC! Read WSJ and Economist daily, listen to Russian on way to work, listen to books on the way to work, play guitar, Get the Edge, (Books: 7 Habits, Unconventional success, Think and Grow Rich, How to Win friends and influence people, Investment Banking text)
  • SPIRITUAL - Magnify Teachers’ Quorum calling – Be a spiritual leader (Duty to God for self), Read scrips 5x per week, Journal once a week (Journal for daily kids activities)
  • PHYSICAL – 10% body fat weighing > 170; in bed at 10:00, wake up at 5:30; Workout, Do P90x session, play basketball through winter; Meal plans!!!
  • ACTIVITIES – Ride and run, climb at rock wall with Becca, triathlon?

Couple/Family

  • Cookie Sunday/ Ice Cream Sunday
  • Temple 1 or 2 month
  • Family Scriptures every night

  • Ski in Idaho, California; visit NY, Boston, Washington DC, Palmyra, Lake Powell, Island Park cabin, cruise? California beach?
  • Enjoy friends in Las Vegas before leaving!

One year from now (Jan 2014) in order to know I have succeeded I need to…
…Be active in the church, saying daily prayers and having regular scripture study; starting the day right by remembering how I’m so richly blessed, attending the temple regularly (2x per month), conducting weekly FHE and daily family prayer; Finally, in general seeking to do His will
…Have a happy, thriving marriage with regular date night where we do all the activities that we enjoy doing together. Have 3 (with another on the way) happy, beautiful kids that I spend quality time with on a consistent basis.
…be PRESENT on the task at hand and be the best investment banker I can be….remember 5-6 extra hours makes a huge difference in understanding the deal…. Become an expert
…Live within our means by saving 10% of salary and 100% of all bonuses and effectively investing this money in our portfolio (real estate and market securities).
…Continually reading a book, including the news (WSJ and Economist) to develop opinions! CFR? Workout and eat right! Play several songs on guitar and increase proficiency on church hymns on piano, Be a sound investor (options, futures, etc),
