Ralph. Shows his naivety and foreshadows his inevitable failure as a leader and already Golding is hinting about the theme of good vs evil, a concurrent theme throughout.
Who is being talked about when Golding describes Ralph sees he is ‘hurt and crushed’ after an insulting name being disclosed? And what does the quote foreshadow?
Piggy. The quote gives an initial insight into piggies impuissant, vulnerable character. ‘ crushed’ foreshadows piggies fate and links to the way and man which he is killed.
Who says the quote ‘daddy’s ship’ talking about his dad’s ship who’ll supposedly come and save them, and what does it say about the character.
Ralph. The quote infantilises him and shows the fragility of him and that he is just a child, not capable of leading a tribe on a deserted island.
Who sees themself as ‘An awesome stranger’ and what does awesome and stranger suggest?
Jack. Awesome is an adjective to describe something as having god like power and he believes he is above everyone. Stranger means he also no longer sees himself as he once was, he is losing the good in him.
Who is fed by Jack and eats their meat ‘like a wolf’ and what is this technique used an example of? What does the quote hint at?
Ralph. An example of of zoomorphism. It hints the boys descent into savagery and that Ralph is losing his authority to Jack.
Who is being spoken about and what is he doing in the quote ‘he found the fruit for they could not reach’ and what does it say about the character?
Simon is grabbing fruit for the littleuns amidst conflict and it shows he isn’t interest in fighting for power and he is one of the only boys who isn’t descending themselves into savagery and he has a more mature, higher morality than the rest of the boys.
