Q
What are the disadvantages of using renewable energy?
A
There are several downsides to renewable energies.
- they cannot produce as much energy as fossil fuel does. This is partly because of their efficiency which is lower than fossil fuel, hence they are producing energy on a smaller scale.
- They are intermittent sources of energy. It is common for renewable energy sources such as wind and solar to be available during a time that is not much use of electricity. Whereas, during the peak demand, those sources are either unavailable or available in small quantities.
- Ecological destruction. This is due to an increased disruption impacting wildlife and their migration patterns. An example would be the increased death rate of flock of birds flying through a wind farm.
2
Q
how PV works?
A
take the photons from the sunlight and use the absorbed photons to free the electrons in the selenium (i.e. the material used in PV cells). With the help of a magnetic field, these free electrons are directed in such a way that they can start creating electricity.
3
Q
how to increase PV efficiency?
A
- increase absorption level
- decrease surface temperature
- forcing electrons to shape a circuit and not to refill the holes
- optimize the electrical contact areas on modules to increase absorption
4
