QUIZ 5 Flashcards
What is the primary function of the Periodontal Ligament?
The primary function of the PDL is support of the teeth.
What are the two principal fiber groups?
1) The GINGIVAL FIBER group is located around the necks of the teeth. 2) The DENTOALVEOLAR group surrounds the roots of the teeth.
The principal fiber groups of the PDL in the gingival are known as the gingival fibers? True or False?
True
Where is the gingival group located?
Around the necks of the teeth
Where is the dentoalveloar group located?
Surrounds the roots of the teeth
What is the interstitial space?
Network of blood vessels, nerves and lymphatic that maintain vitality.
Where do the free gingival fibers arise from?(GFG)
The surface of the cementum in the cervical region and pass into the free gingiva
Where do the attached gingival fibers arise from? (GFG)
alveolar crest and pass into the attached gingiva
Where do circumferential/circular fibers arise from? (GFG)
Continuous around the neck and resist gingival displacement.
Where do the alveolar crest fibers arise from?(GFG)
The cementum at the neck of tooth and terminate in the alveolar crest!
Where do transseptal fiber arise? (GFG)
Cervical region of each crown and and extend to Medial and Distal surfaces of adjacent teeth.
Where does the alveolar crest group (DFG) arise?
Cervical just below the DEJ into alveolar crest and and into gingival connective tissue. RESISTS INTRUSIVE FORCES!!!!
Where does the Horizontal group arise from?
Horizontal direction from midroot cementum to adjacent alveolar bone proper. RESIST TIPPING OF THE TEETH!!
Where does the oblique fiber group arise from?
Oblique direction above apical zone of root to alveolar bone RESISTS VERTICAL +INTRUSIVE FORCES!
Where does the apical fiber group arise?
PERPENDICULAR from surface of root apices to adjacent Fundic alveolar bone+surrounds root apex. RESISTS VERTICAL+INTRUSIVE FORCES!!
