Continuity editing
Editing some action for continuous, logistical recreation in time and space. Should be invisible and not confuse the audience
Chroma key
An effect in which the background of one shot is digitally removed and replaced with another shot(typically against a green screen)
Dynamic editing
Any editing that is not continuity. Purposely breaks rules of continuity. Often uses montage
iMovie event
A folder within iMovie that holds imported movie files. These files can be used in multiple projects
iMovie project
A file created in iMovie containing a single movie project ( .rcproject file)
Jump cut
An abrupt and psychologically jarring edit. Should be avoided unless intentional/justified.
Montage
A series of images /video clips edited together to create some meaning. Often set to music. Can also be used to condense time.
Pacing
The apparent speed of a video segment. Determined by shot length and transition type.
Transition
A visual change from one shot to the next
Cut transition
An instantaneous change from one shot to the next
Dissolve transition
One video image fades out while another fades in to replace it
Fade transition
A dissolve which comes from or goes to black
Wipe transition
One shot is progressively replaced by another shot using a line or geometric pattern
