• Know if they have had a mastectomy, palpate incision lines to ensure they are not hard
• When examine the breasts using the technique of inspection and examination

• History of asthma, lung disease?
• Taking any meds for chronic lung conditions?
• Have they had pneumonia and when?
• What happens when you get colds? Upper/lower resp tract
• Allergies? Seasonal?
• Sputum? Does it smell? whats it look like?
• Currently smoke or vape? If yes how long, if they didnt quit then encourage them too
• Any second hand smoke exposure
• What is there job?

Question 4

Assessment of Lungs and Thorax

Answer 4

• During focused or comprehensive exams
• Include Inspection, palpation, percussion and auscultation
• If anything abnormal, report but normal continue
• Looking to see if they have chest discomfort? (Chest or heart)
• SOB?
• Cough?
• Does chest look equal? rising and falling?
• How is the pt presenting? Grimacing
• Also assess the spine (scolosis, humpback) , ribcage, trachea (deviations can be related to thyroid diseases), sternum for structure abnomalities
