Network Interface Cards (NICs)
Is used to connect the computer to the network cable in a wired network. In a wireless network the NIC is a radio transmitter.
Network Cables
Wired LANs, UTPs, STP, Fiber-optic cable, Wireless LANs (WLANs),
Wireless LANs (WLANs)
Use radio transmissions, usually operate in two frequency ranges; 2.4 and 5 GHz range. APs don’t interfere with each other.
Hubs and Switches
Link cables from more device, sometimes more than one type of cabling. Thought of as junction box, acts as repeaters, reconstructing, and strengthening incoming signals.
Access Points (APs)
Use radio waves to connect wireless clients to the wired network (instead of using hubs/switches)
Software
Network operating service (NOS). NOS server software enables the file server, print server, or database server to operate.
