Quiz 2 Flashcards
origin of muscle
usually more proximal end, closer to body trunk
insertion of muscle
more distal end
muscle attaching pelvis and femur, across their connecting joint
adduction/abduction, help bring femur out/in
muscle across the ankle joint and origin at the top of calf
help raise onto toes, plantar flexion
peripheral blood smear
white space = plasma, darker purple = lymphocyte, neutrophil has a dip/space in the darker purple/nucleus
bone marrow
monocyte has a dipped (no space) nucleus, eosinophil is lighter purple in cell and then has dark purple nucleus (may have a lighter pink tint to it), basophil is just all dark purple
artery versus vein histology
artery has a much thicker media (it goes externa, media, intima) - I believe intima is one cell line
tissue type surrounding blood vessels
adipose connective tissue
elastic artery
ex: aorta, these are the largest arteries and have elastic connective tissue in the tunica media (withstand pressure from the heart and recoil to maintain shape)
muscular artery
ex: radial artery, have a thicker smooth muscle layer at the tunica media, feel firm and rubbery under palpation in cadaver
arteriole
small, smallest arteries, with an incomplete or very small tunica media
venule
really small, lots of white around, smallest veins receiving blood from capillaries
large vein
vena cava, do not have valves and will be found closest to heart, looks to have a thicker darker media
medium vein
brachial vein, have venous valves periodically along the length which facilitate one-way blood flow back to the heart. include deep veins and superficial veins
what connects veins to arteries
capillaries
