After the death of Purcell, there were no famous/ great composers until Arthur Sullivan. After that, Edward Elgar came along and he was the first English who had international reputation. He used very few English folk music in his music. Vaughn Williams used a lot of folk music in his compositions. Gustav Holst wrote band music, choral music and “The Planets.”
