Pyloric stenosis
Acute inflammatory reaction that often follows an URI. Pain in groin or hip with limitation of internal rotation of the hip. Treat w/ rest and slight flexion of the hip. Most common cause of limp and hip pain in US
transient hip synovitis
Fever, irritability, refusal to walk, hip held in flexion & internal rotation, redness, heat due to hematogenous spread of staph aureus. Aspirate joint and if there is pus irrigate in surgery
septic arthritis
Idiopathic AVN of proximal femoral head. Present with pain, limp, decreased internal rotaiton and abduction. Tx w/ protecting joint. Often seen in ages 4-8
Legg-Calve-perthes Dz
Displacement of proximal femoral epiphysis due to disruption of growth plate can have pain the knee. Tx with surgery. often seen in males 10-16
slipped capital femoral epiphysis
Fast growing, open growth plates causes fragmentation & microfractures of tibial tuberosity. Tx w/ rest, NSAIDs, stretching.
