What is the prostate gland?
Produces prostatic fluid, contributing to semen. Surrounds the urethra and plays a role in sperm activation.
Cowper’s gland?
Small glands that produce clear, lubricating fluid. Released before ejaculation to neutralize activity in the urethra.
Scrotum?
Pouch of skin and muscles that houses the testes. Helps regulate the temperature of the testes for optimal sperm count.
Van deferens?
Muscular tube that transports sperm from the epididymis to the ejaculatory duct during ejaculation.
Penis?
External male genital organ that serves as conduit for urine and sperm. It consists of cylindrical columns of erectile tissue.
Testicle?
Paired oval organs. Produce sperm and testosterone.
Epididymis?
Coiled tubes attached to the testes where sperm mature and gain the ability to move.
What is the external female reproductive anatomy?
Mons pubis, labia majora, clitoris, vaginal opening, perinium
What is the internal female reproductive anatomy?
Vagina, cervix, uterus, fallopian tubes
What is the uterus?
Pear shaped organ where fertilized egg implants during pregnancy
What is the vagina?
Muscular tube that connects the external genitals and the cervix. Serves as birth canal and site of menstrual flow
Cervix?
Lower part of the uterus that connects to the vagina. Also the passageway of menstrual blood and where sperm enters the uterus.
Fallopian tubes?
Extend from the uterus to the ovaries. Site of fertilization.
Ovaries?
Produce eggs (ova) and hormones (estrogen and progesterone)
Menstruation?
Monthly shedding of the uterine lining through the vagina in the absence of pregnancy
