What is quinsy?

A

Peritonsillar abscess, also known as quinsy, is a serious complication of tonsillitis that requires prompt diagnosis and treatment

It is a collection of pus in the tissue surrounding the tonsils, usually caused by bacterial infection.

  1. Severe throat pain, which lateralises to one side
  2. Deviation of the uvula to the unaffected side
  3. Trismus (difficulty opening the mouth)
  4. Reduced neck mobility.
