Quick Terms Flashcards
Henry’s Law
Soda Bottle; A gas is more soluble under pressure; mol/m^3 x Pa or mol/kg x Pa. Solubility = Kh x Pgas
Temp vs solubility
Increased temp increases solubility in solids and liquids, decreases solubility in gases
Colligative Properties of Solutions (4)
As solute concentration increases:
1. Vapor pressure decreases
2. Freezing Point decreases
3. Boiling Point Increases
4. Osmotic pressure increases
(Osmosis ALWAYS spontaneously occurs from hypotonic to hypertonic)
Gas Laws
Figure out using PV=nRT
Graham’s Law
Larger molecules move slower, smaller molecules move faster
STP
T= 0C, 273K
P= 1atm= 1bar= 100kPa
Standard Molar Volume=22.4 L/mol
Law of LaPlace
The wall tension of a hollow sphere or cylinder is proportional to the pressure of its contents and it’s radius. Wall stress is the wall tension/2x the wall thickness.
